Vogue Williams was forced to halt a conversation with her mum Sandra live on Heart Radio on Friday (14 August) after she nearly revealed the name of her unborn baby. During her two-week stint presenting the programme, the 40-year-old shared that her fourth child with husband Spencer Matthews will have an unusual name, one she's shared with very few loved ones.
Live on-air moment
On her final day standing in for Amanda Holden on the show, Vogue was joined by her mum Sandra, who rang in from Ireland. During their chat, Sandra complimented her daughter for handling the early morning shift while heavily pregnant and amid the heatwave.
Vogue's co-presenter Jamie Theakston then enquired if she was "excited about the new arrival," to which she replied: "Very excited yes," before confessing she wasn't particularly fond of the chosen name.
Close call
When asked if the name selection had been "a bone of contention", Sandra seemed to accidentally drop a major hint about her unborn grandchild's moniker. She said: "Well her little brother went to school with the drummer from U2...," before Vogue quickly intervened and exclaimed: "No mum don't give away the name!"
Seemingly embarrassed by what she'd almost disclosed, Vogue's mum said: "No, I'm not saying, but that was his name, it's not a name that's been there before," before swiftly switching topics and explaining that Vogue's own name derives from a "Saint Vogue in Ireland".
Name deliberations
Vogue is already a mum to Theodore, seven, Gigi, five, and three-year-old Otto with Spencer. The couple exchanged vows in 2018, a year after their paths crossed on the reality show The Jump.
While deliberating over the name for their fourth child, the presenter disclosed that she and her spouse had clashed over a few names she favoured. "I loved Sailor," she confessed. "That was vetoed. Not allowed to have it because of the song A Sailor Went To Sea." She also confessed to being fond of "Rocket" as a name, adding: "Think about what you'd want to be called. I'd love to be called Rocket. And for people closest to me, I'd say, 'Call me Rocks'."
Previously discussing the name with her My Therapist Ghosted Me podcast co-host Joanne McNally, Vogue claimed the name she had selected was "mad". "I'm just going to warn everyone, the name we love is f****d. Okay. It's mad," she divulged. Revealing her initial reaction to hearing the name, Joanne admitted: "I was a bit taken aback. It's the heaviest hitter yet, isn't it? You'd have to say of the four, it's the heaviest hitter." Vogue added: "It's such a big first name. We're going to do a normal middle name just in case so the baby can choose."
