Cramlington firm Transmission Dynamics has been named North East Business of the Year at the North East Business Awards, held at Hardwick Hall. The company, known for its work in robotics and AI, took the top prize among 11 winners on the night.
Winners across the region
Newcastle's Neptune North won the Growth Award, while Burger-Drop was named Small Business of the Year. Individual honours went to Laura Edgar, founder of Aura Infection Control, who was named Business Person of the Year, and Henrietta Newble from AnFitest, who received the Rising Star award.
The Outstanding Contribution to North East Business award went to Hugh Welch from Newcastle solicitors Muckle LLP. He was praised for combining excellence in his day job with a deep-seated commitment to making the North East a better place.
Pride in regional roots
Transmission Dynamics' managing director Jenny Hudson said: "This award means a massive amount. We founded the company in Northumberland 30 years ago and established our own just over three years ago now, 10 minutes from our original place."
She added: "We wanted to keep ourselves founded in the North East and want to prove what businesses in the North East can achieve on a global scale. Having recognition now after such a successful couple of years is a particularly proud moment for every individual in the team. They work so hard, and I'm massively delighted to see them get the recognition they deserve."
Recruitment challenges
Hudson noted that recruitment remains a challenge for tech companies. "We do have a struggle to keep people with the right skills in the North East," she said. "But we have such fantastic projects, customers and innovations, so thankfully we've been able to keep attracting the right staff and retaining them through a really strong work hard and play hard culture."
