The BBC has confirmed that The One Show will undergo a shake-up for one week only this month as the programme celebrates its 20th anniversary. First airing in 2006, the magazine show has been a staple of the evening schedule, with presenters including Adrian Chiles, Christine Bleakley, and now Alex Jones, Roman Kemp, JB Gill, and Lauren Laverne.
Special week of programmes
To mark the milestone, The One Show will air a week of special programmes featuring celebrity guests, memorable reunions, surprise moments, and stories that have captivated viewers over the past two decades. Alex and Roman will lead the celebrations from the studio, while familiar faces will be live across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, revisiting some of the show's most memorable stories and discovering what happened next.
"Across entertainment, real-life stories, cultural milestones and extraordinary achievements, the week will shine a spotlight on the people and moments that have defined The One Show," the broadcaster shared.
Highlights and finale
The celebrations will include special live moments from around the UK and beyond, starting at the Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, Ireland's biggest celebration of traditional music and culture, to the rare sight of a partial solar eclipse sweeping across the country. The week will culminate on Friday, August 14, with an extended One Big Night to Remember anniversary special, bringing together some of the biggest names, most memorable stories, and greatest moments from 20 years of The One Show.
Alex, who has been part of the presenting line-up since 2010, said: "I can't believe it. Ultimately, it's not about us who host it. The show itself is an institution, and it's really found a way into people's hearts. Especially since the pandemic I think, it's become part of Britain's daily routine."
"People switch on at 7pm and they know that they will get really good guests but also there's always interesting VTs or we're out around the UK celebrating individuals who've done something amazing in their community. It's impossible to turn The One Show on and say I hate everything. I just don't believe that you can."
