Susanna Reid reacts to Piers Morgan BGT comeback rumours
Susanna Reid on Piers Morgan BGT return rumours

Susanna Reid has responded to speculation that her former Good Morning Britain co-host Piers Morgan could be making a return to Britain's Got Talent. The 61-year-old served as a judge on the ITV talent programme from its debut in 2007 through to 2010, and is now rumoured to be preparing a comeback for its 20th anniversary next year.

Laughing emoji response

Piers has only added fuel to the fire, posting a pair of eyes emoji in reaction to a story about "two huge stars" returning to the programme. Speaking on GMB on Monday (October 12), Susanna disclosed that she questioned her former colleague directly about the speculation, and he merely replied with a laughing emoji.

The ITV presenter added: "Then I noticed that he wasn't denying it. Whatever happens, he definitely wants us to talk about it. He has always said that in its hey day, when he was on the judging panel, Britain's Got Talent had its highest ratings, its greatest appeal. So what do they need? They need Piers Morgan back on the judging panel."

Previous departure and approaches

Piers departed the BGT judging panel in 2010, claiming it was due to needing to concentrate on his CNN chat show, Piers Morgan Live, reports the Express. "There's been considerable speculation about what my new CNN job means for my role on Britain's Got Talent. Well, sadly, I can now confirm that I will have to quit BGT, as I will be ensconced in New York interviewing popes, presidents, pugilists and popstars when the auditions are filmed next year," he said at the time.

The former Good Morning Britain host revealed that ITV bosses reached out to him "several times" about rejoining the judging panel back in 2020. "I was approached several times to go back to Britain's Got Talent when Simon Cowell got injured," he said. "That would have been quite fun, but I'd rather do it with him."

Potential reunion

Piers went on to say: "He and I had a great chemistry and it would have been quite a fun one to go back in and have a laugh with Simon, but he'd have to be involved. I've seen how other people are with him."

Over 16 years on, Piers could be poised for a reunion with original fellow judges Simon Cowell and Amanda Holden, alongside Alesha Dixon and KSI. "A 20th anniversary extravaganza is in the works as producers work out which familiar faces to bring back to celebrate the huge milestone," a source told The Sun. "Simon, Piers and Amanda had such fun chemistry. The idea would be to bring Piers back as a guest judge for the January auditions."

Good Morning Britain is on ITV1 and ITVX.
