Former Strictly Come Dancing professional Nadiya Bychkova has described the show's backstage atmosphere as an "intense environment" with a "family atmosphere," following her departure earlier this year. The dancer, who had been part of the BBC series since 2017, was among five professionals to leave after the latest series, alongside Karen Hauer, Gorka Marquez, Luba Mushtuk, and Michelle Tsiakkas.

Speaking to Betway, Bychkova shared that she often invited friends to visit the set. "I'd have friends come and visit me on set and watch the show from the audience. I'd always tell them how much of a family atmosphere there is backstage, and I'm not sure they believed me. But whenever they came, they always commented on it and seemed surprised by how well everyone got along," she said. She added: "It's an intense environment and there are nerves, but it's a great cast and crew."
Reaction to her exit
Bychkova said she felt "fine" about leaving Strictly, stating it was "time for a new chapter." She announced her departure on Instagram, writing: "After 9 wonderful years, this part of my journey with Strictly Come Dancing is evolving." She thanked fans for their support and added: "This isn't the end... I look forward to being part of the Strictly world for many years to come in ways I am beginning to explore."
Major changes for 2026
Strictly Come Dancing is undergoing significant changes for the 2026 series. Alongside the reshuffle of professional dancers, long-time hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman have departed. Emma Willis, Josh Widdicombe, and former professional Johannes Radebe have been announced as the new presenting line-up. Several celebrity participants have already been confirmed, including EastEnders actress Lacey Turner, Love Island's Dani Dyer, singer Delta Goodrem, hairstylist Chris Appleton, social media personality Cach Mercer, TV and radio presenter Will Best, and Paralympian Dame Sarah Storey.
