The BBC has unveiled a first-look clip and fresh artwork for the second series of Funboys. The award-winning show, produced by Mayhay Studios and featuring actor Steve Coogan, has been created by BAFTA-winning writer Simon Mayhew-Archer, whose previous work includes This Country and Can You Keep A Secret?.
What to Expect in Season 2
The second series will comprise four half-hour episodes and will broadcast on BBC Three, BBC Northern Ireland and BBC iPlayer, with backing from Northern Ireland Screen. Ryan Dylan, Rian Lennon, Lee R James and Ele McKenzie all reprise their roles in the new series, while Coogan joins as a guest star. Familiar faces Brian Devlin, Owen Colgan, Paul Bazely and Richard Croxford also return, alongside new cast members Nicky Harley, Saorlaoith Brady, Lalor Roddy, Donal O'Hanlon and Amanda Doherty.
The second series reunites viewers with the Ballymacnoose gang as they strive to move on following the events of the previous run. Callum has adopted a new look, Gemma and Lorcan's romance continues to blossom, and Jordan has managed to keep his temper in check for several months. Predictably, the peace proves short-lived. The group quickly becomes entangled in increasingly far-fetched predicaments after an unexpected connection to the legacy of the Irish Potato Famine emerges. As the series progresses, they'll face everything from social friction and personal hang-ups to ferocious robot-fighting contests.
Spin-off Programme: Fair Game
The BBC has also announced a companion spin-off programme, Fair Game, produced by the team behind Funboys. The gaming review show features Jordan, Callum, Lorcan and Gemma as they examine the newest releases, offer their views and tackle some of gaming's most contentious topics. Enhancing the entertainment is special guest Roger Craig Smith, renowned for voicing characters across major franchises such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Assassin's Creed and Resident Evil.
Audiences can anticipate numerous lively debates, including whether life-simulation games suit adult men and how various titles measure up in terms of narrative quality.
Steve Coogan's Praise
Steve Coogan says: "I loved working with them. They are an original voice in comedy and they have bright futures ahead of them. Properly funny fellas. Rian's direction was clear and confident, always on the money. Sorry this reads like a reference. The point is they know what they're doing."
Funboys series one is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
