The BAFTA Film Awards returned to London's Royal Festival Hall on Sunday night, celebrating the year's cinematic achievements. Host David Tennant opened the ceremony with a monologue, but behind the scenes, technical issues struck. Tennant's microphone wire fell out of his kilt, prompting him to joke, 'We'll cut that bit out,' which indeed was omitted from the BBC broadcast.
Zoe Saldana, winner of the supporting actress BAFTA for 'Emilia Perez,' expressed her gratitude on stage but then swore after being given a countdown. She shouted 'f**k, f**k, f**k' before adding, 'Films are supposed to change hearts and challenge minds.' The expletive was cut from the televised version.
Tennant also took a swipe at US President Donald Trump during his opening speech. Referring to 'The Brutalist,' he said, 'It's the boldest architecture in film this year, apart from Donald Trump's hair in The Apprentice.' He joked that Trump likely hadn't seen the film, adding, 'It's a 15 and it's not on Nickelodeon.'
Surprise appearances included Kylie Jenner, who attended to support her boyfriend Timothée Chalamet. She avoided the red carpet but was seen chatting with Monica Barbaro in a black mesh gown. West Belfast rap group Kneecap also walked the red carpet, with their Irish-language film nominated in six categories.
