The BBC has confirmed that Small Prophets, the comedy series created by and starring Mackenzie Crook, will return for a second series. The show, which is filmed and set in Manchester, will move from BBC Two to BBC One for its new run.
Star-Studded Cast and Crew Return
Alongside Crook, the second series will feature Sir Michael Palin, Pearce Quigley and Lauren Patel. The six-part series will again be written and directed by Crook, known for Detectorists and Worzel Gummidge, and produced by BAFTA-winning Gill Isles, whose credits include Car Share and Alma’s Not Normal.
Plot and Production Details
The story centres on eccentric Michael Sleep, played by Quigley, whose partner Clea disappeared seven years ago. Still hoping for her return, Sleep conjures magical prophesying spirits that can predict the future, with the help of his colleague Kacey, played by Patel.
Creator Mackenzie Crook said: “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to tell the second half of this strange story and as intrigued as anyone else to find out what happens to Michael Sleep in his mystical quest. The prophets have foretold that series two will be happening next year and, as we know, they are compelled to speak the truth.”
Record-Breaking First Series
Producer Gill Isles added: “It’s a real privilege to be producing the second series of Small Prophets. Mackenzie has created such a distinctive, magical world, and I can’t wait to return to Marvin Gardens and help bring this new chapter to life.”
