Sinfield's 7 in 7 ultramarathon raises £1m for MND

Sir Kevin Sinfield has raised more than £1 million for motor neurone disease charities during a gruelling seven-day ultramarathon that will conclude at Old Trafford on Saturday evening (October 3).

The former Leeds Rhinos star has been running an ultramarathon every day since September 27, visiting each of the home grounds of the 12 English Betfred Super League clubs to raise funds for the MND Foundation.

Seventh and final challenge

This is Sinfield's seventh and final ultra-running challenge to raise awareness and money for the MND community. The team received a visit from the Prince and Princess of Wales during their stop at Wakefield Trinity on Tuesday and passed their fundraising target of £777,777 on day four.

The number 7 honours the late Rob Burrow CBE, another Leeds Rhinos legend who wore the number and died from the disease in 2024 after living with it for more than four years.

Route through Greater Manchester

By the end of day five, the team reached the Peninsula Stadium in Salford, by which point they had raised over £1m for the Motor Neurone Disease Association, Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association, My Name'5 Doddie Foundation, MND Scotland, Leeds Hospitals Charity and The Darby Rimmer MND Foundation.

Thursday's Extra Mile – where Sinfield and his team are joined by those impacted by MND – took place at Churchill Playing Fields, after which he passed through his home town of Oldham. The day concluded at the AIG Stadium, home of Sky Bet League Two football club Salford, where crowds in the stand greeted him.

Final stretch and Grand Final finish

The event resumes on Friday with the penultimate day of the course starting in Salford and ending at Brewdog Stadium, home of St Helens. Sinfield will pass by the grounds of Leigh Leopards and Wigan Warriors.

Sinfield's route will conclude on the pitch at Old Trafford ahead of Saturday's Super League Grand Final between Warrington and Wakefield, with his son Jack in the squad for Trinity.
