The Great British Sewing Bee bid farewell to another contestant on Tuesday (August 4), as Lewis became the fourth sewer to leave the BBC competition after completing three Mexican-themed tasks.
Host Sophie Willan praised Lewis, saying: "You've been fabulous, and we'll all miss you a lot. You've been brilliant."
Lewis reflected on his exit: "I think it was absolutely, you know, my time to go. Coming on here has been a really good way to show that you can do something completely out of your comfort zone and learn lots, and have a fun time."
Judge's tribute
Judge Esme Young expressed her sadness at Lewis's departure, paying tribute to his character. She said: "I'll miss Lewis just because there's something really hilarious about him."
After Lewis's goodbye, the spotlight turned to Heather, who earned garment of the week for her creation inspired by the Fiesta Grande De Enero.
Heather's winning garment
Heather designed her own version of the Chiapaneca dress and skirt, made from four gathered tiers of different floral fabrics. Judge Patrick Grant praised the design: "I think, for Heather, it all just came together beautifully. When I saw [her garment] walk down the catwalk, it felt of that Mexican festival world but it also felt contemporary. It was everything that I was hoping to see from this challenge."
Guest judge Erika Alvarez admired the coordination, saying: "I don't know how you managed to coordinate all the colours," with Esme adding: "You've really thought about using all these different prints and it's very nicely made."
Patrick also noted: "I'm so pleased that you put the fourth tier on... It's so easy watching Kit come down the runway. It moved so nicely."
Challenges and cultural celebration
Earlier in the episode, the pattern challenge tasked sewers with crafting a folkloric top using materials produced by indigenous communities in Mexico's Oaxaca region. In the transformation round, participants repurposed a tablecloth to construct a garment with striking structure, before designing bespoke outfits inspired by Mexican festivals.
At the end of the episode, Erika commented: "I just appreciate all the heart that they put into all the garments, and I feel so lucky to have this chance to share the Mexican culture."
