Seven players who featured under Jose Mourinho at Manchester United are now without a club, including the £132m duo of Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial. The list also includes Adnan Januzaj, Chris Smalling, Memphis Depay, Axel Tuanzebe and Brandon Williams.
Pogba and Martial among those unattached
Paul Pogba, who joined United in a club-record £89m move during Mourinho's tenure, is set to become a free agent imminently. He has been offered a contract termination by Monaco and is currently nursing a hamstring injury, which could delay a rumoured move to the MLS.
Anthony Martial also finds himself unattached, having recently been released by Monterrey after scoring just one goal in 20 appearances for the club. He joined United in a deal worth around £43m, with his poor displays meaning the Red Devils didn't have to pay an extra £14.4m in lucrative bonuses.
Other former United players now free agents
Adnan Januzaj, another player touted as a future star during his time at United, was let go by Sevilla at the end of his contract earlier this year. Chris Smalling, Memphis Depay and Axel Tuanzebe are in the same boat, having been released by Al-Fayha, Corinthians and Burnley respectively.
Brandon Williams left Old Trafford back in 2024 before a short spell with Hull City ended in February. He made just one competitive appearance for the Tigers and is currently looking for a new club.
Williams reflects on his United career
Williams has gone through a number of personal issues, which have been well-documented, and is currently looking to resurrect his football career. Speaking to The Athletic earlier this month, he said: "I’ve only just started to look back and be like: ‘I actually did something. I actually played for United 51 times’. It’s something to be proud of."
"I know it’s not going to be a quick process, I know I’m not going to be in the Premier League next year. I’m ready to climb the mountain and get back to the top of it."
