Chelsea wrapped up pre-season with a 3-1 win over Real Sociedad on Saturday afternoon. Morgan Rogers scored his first goal for the club 11 minutes into his debut, tapping in after Joao Pedro's header fell into his path.
Rogers impresses on debut
The former Aston Villa star played his first match since England's third-placed playoff victory over France at the World Cup this summer. He impressed before being replaced early in the first half.
Fernandez booed by fans
Enzo Fernandez received a frosty reception when he came on in the second half. The 25-year-old was given an extended break after reaching the World Cup final, a match in which he was sent off with Argentina. That red card came after he scored the equaliser in the semi-final against England and celebrated by cupping his ears in front of the supporters. The reception could have been due to that behaviour or transfer speculation linking him with Manchester City.
Pedro and Sanchez star
Joao Pedro was in fine form, playing a key role in Rogers' goal before scoring twice himself. Robert Sanchez made several key saves in the first half, keeping Chelsea level before Jon Aramburu's stunning volley drew Real Sociedad level just before half-time. Chelsea regained the lead in the 47th minute through Joao Pedro's header from a Reece James cross, and the Brazilian sealed the win with a fine finish in the 77th minute.
Cole Palmer, who had the summer off after not being involved in Thomas Tuchel's World Cup squad, is still not up to speed ahead of Chelsea's Premier League opener at Fulham on August 24.
