Lindsey Burrow, the widow of rugby league legend Rob Burrow, is taking on her latest charity challenge by pushing a big red sofa 80 miles across Yorkshire. She will be joined by BBC Look North presenter Amy Garcia for this year's Children in Need appeal.
The pair will push the programme's red sofa 80 miles (129km) over five days, covering 12-20 miles each day. Their route starts at Ripon on Monday November 9 and passes through South Yorkshire before finishing in Wakefield on Friday November 13.
Route and broadcast details
This year's route includes: 9 November - Ripon to Knaresborough, 10 November - Sprotbrough to Conisbrough, 11 November - Strines to Sheffield, 12 November - Meltham to Holme Moss, and 13 November - Morley to Wakefield. Their efforts will be broadcast live along the route.
The pair will also stop at Children in Need-funded projects along the way to see how they are supporting children and young people in the region.
Fundraising legacy
Rob's former Leeds Rhinos team mate Sir Kevin Sinfield has raised more than £13m with his charity ventures, while Rob raised more than £20m for Motor Neurone Disease charities. Last year, Lindsey and Amy raised tens of thousands of pounds on a three-legged walk for BBC Children in Need.
Lindsey, 43, has also run several marathons in memory of her late husband, who died in 2024, four and a half years after his diagnosis of motor neurone disease. He told how his children Macy, 14, Maya, 11, and seven-year-old Jackson inspired him "never to submit" to the disease in one of his last interviews.
Challenge ahead
Lindsey said she expected the sofa push to be one of her toughest challenges yet. "We did a test push for about 500 yards and it's a lot harder than I expected," she said. "I think it's going to be a real challenge, to say the least. I like to take part in fundraising, and to be able to support Children in Need with the incredible work that they do and support the charities, is just really special."
In 2018 the Big 50 Sofa Challenge raised almost £200,000 for Sport Relief. Details of how to donate to this year's challenge will be made public in the coming weeks.
