A special RAF flypast will grace the skies over Stockport this weekend as part of the town's Krazy Races event. The display will feature a Dakota aircraft from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, scheduled for around 2.45pm on Sunday, August 9.
Expanded event line-up
Krazy Races, known for its family-friendly atmosphere, will take over Stockport town centre with the UK's largest touring soapbox derby. Around 40 teams will race engineless, hand-built vehicles down a winding 350-metre track, with quirky designs inspired by pop culture, such as Ghostbusters and 1980s themes in previous years.
This year's event, running from 11am to 5pm, expands beyond the derby to include a classic cars showcase from the Italian Auto Moto Club, responding to the event's growing popularity.
Historic aircraft
The Douglas C47 Dakota is celebrated as one of the most successful military transport aircraft in history. It conducted paradropping operations on the eve of D-Day and was used during World War Two to evacuate casualties and re-supply forces. The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight performs around 900 displays annually across the UK.
The flypast follows a Lancaster Bomber display at the 2024 Krazy Races, which drew thousands of spectators.
Organisers' excitement
