Queen Camilla backs new awards scheme for young journalists

The Journalists' Charity has launched the Queen Camilla Future of Journalism Awards, supported by the Queen's patronage. The scheme will give 25 journalists aged 18 to 30 a cash prize of up to £2,500 each year, alongside mentoring or coaching.

The prize is intended to help young journalists working across print, broadcast, digital, and social media invest in training, equipment, travel, or accommodation, and ease the financial barriers to entering the industry.

Recognition and support

Winners will also be invited to a ceremony with industry leaders, celebrating their commitment to journalism and future potential.

James Brindle, chief executive of the Journalists' Charity, said: "We're deeply honoured that as our Patron, Her Majesty The Queen is backing the charity's efforts to support new talent at a time when journalism has never been more important. It's a privilege to launch this ground-breaking new awards scheme which is set to unlock opportunities for many younger journalists nationwide. The awards will make a real difference every year, giving the stars of the future the tools they need to take their career to the next level."

How to apply

Applications are open throughout August, with winners announced in September. Applicants must demonstrate their commitment to journalism and explain how a financial award would make a difference to their career.

The Journalists' Charity was founded by Charles Dickens in 1864 and supports journalists across the UK and Ireland. Queen Victoria, an early supporter, granted the organisation a Royal Charter in 1890.
