Bathroom taps can quickly lose their shine, particularly in hard-water areas where limescale seems to appear overnight. The stubborn white marks can make even a clean bathroom look grubby, and one writer has found a single product from Home Bargains that keeps them limescale-free and shiny for weeks.
A Product Designed for Limescale
Ordinary bathroom sprays often fail to cut through stubborn build-up properly, whereas Viakal is specifically designed to tackle limescale, soap scum and water marks. The product was bought from Home Bargains and described as amazing.
The method is simple: spray it over the affected areas of the tap, leave it to work according to the instructions, and then wipe it away with a damp cloth. For more stubborn deposits, the product instructions say it can be left for up to three minutes before rinsing.
Noticeable Results Around the Tap Base
The difference is particularly noticeable around the base of the tap and underneath the spout, where limescale can collect and be surprisingly difficult to remove. Rather than spending ages scrubbing, the product loosens the chalky residue so it can be wiped away much more easily.
It also leaves the taps looking noticeably shinier once they have been rinsed and dried. The same product was also used to clean grout in a shower, where it worked well at brightening and removing stubborn stains.
Anti-Droplet Technology and Usage Tips
The product uses anti-droplet technology, which is designed to help prevent water marks and limescale from building up again as quickly. It is not the cheapest cleaning product, costing around £2.75 at Home Bargains, but the bottle lasts a long time.
It can also be used to clean the shower head, and is particularly effective at removing limescale that builds up quickly. As it is quite a strong product, it is important to wear gloves and ventilate the area well, and it should not be mixed with any other cleaning products.
