Queen Camilla has formally backed the first Queen Camilla Future of Journalism Awards, a new scheme from the Journalists' Charity offering grants up to £2,500 and expert guidance to up-and-coming media professionals. Applications have opened for the annual awards, which aim to help 25 journalists aged 18 to 30 kickstart their careers.
Winners will receive financial support for courses, equipment, travel or accommodation, as well as dedicated coaching. They will also be invited to a special event to connect with media leaders in recognition of their commitment and future potential.
Backing from the Queen
Announcing the award, James Brindle, chief executive of the Journalists' Charity, said: “We’re deeply honoured that as our Patron, Her Majesty The Queen is backing the charity’s efforts to support new talent at a time when journalism has never been more important.”
He continued: “It’s a privilege to launch this groundbreaking new awards scheme, which is set to unlock opportunities for many younger journalists nationwide.
“The awards will make a real difference every year, giving the stars of the future the tools they need to take their career to the next level.”
Addressing financial barriers
With financial restrictions continuing to be a major barrier for many entering journalism, the awards are designed to help winners realise their potential while supporting employers in sourcing and retaining talent from a wider range of backgrounds.
The prize is open to those working across print, broadcast, digital and social media, offering the chance to invest in career development while also supporting the future of journalism.
Charity heritage and timeline
The Journalists' Charity was founded by Charles Dickens in 1864 and was supported by Queen Victoria, who granted the organisation a Royal Charter in 1890.
Applications are open throughout August 2026, with winners expected to be notified in September 2026.
