The family of Kevin Keegan have announced that a private funeral will be held in the coming weeks, following the football legend's death last month at the age of 75.
Keegan, who starred for Liverpool, Hamburg, Southampton and Newcastle United, died on July 20 after a battle with stomach cancer. He earned 63 caps for England and later managed the national team, Newcastle, Fulham and Manchester City.
Family's statement
In a statement issued through the League Managers Association, the Keegan family said they have been "truly overwhelmed" by the volume of tributes. They expressed gratitude for the support and requested privacy as they navigate this difficult period.
The family also announced a memorial service hosted by Newcastle United, with details to be communicated at a later date.
Charity fundraiser
A fundraiser has been established in Keegan's honour, with proceeds going to The Christie Charity and Football Families for Justice, causes close to his heart. The Christie provided immeasurable help to Keegan and his family, while Football Families for Justice supports former players with neurodegenerative diseases linked to heading the ball.
Newcastle United paid tribute, saying Keegan was "more than a legendary footballer and manager" and "the beating heart of Newcastle United for generations of supporters."
