Prince Harry Reveals Eton College Has Football Team, Pleasing Prince George
Prince Harry Reveals Eton College Has Football Team

Prince Harry made a surprising comment about Eton College during a television appearance on Sunday, which is likely to please his nephew Prince George ahead of his first term at the school in September.

Harry's TV Appearance

After the World Cup 2026 Final match, the Duke of Sussex appeared on Fox's 'After Hours with James Corden'. Host James Corden, a friend of Harry, joked about the 'posh' schools Harry attended and asked if he had played soccer during his school years, suggesting the school might have been 'too posh' for the sport.

Harry jokingly corrected Corden for using the American term 'soccer' instead of 'football', and confirmed that Eton College did allow students to play football.

Harry's Football Experience at Eton

The duke revealed: 'It was such a posh school that everything was an option. There was a football team.' Harry, 41, added that while he excelled at football in prep school, he did not make the top team at Eton. He said: 'You know what, in prep school, I was on the first team. And then I went to the bigger school, and I ended up on the E team. Big A team, down to E team. So that didn't feel very good.'

Implications for Prince George

The confirmation that Eton has a football team is welcome news for Prince George, who is set to start as a boarder at the school in September. George is a football fan and supports Aston Villa; football is believed to be one of his favourite sports, along with tennis and rugby.

Although George is not believed to have regular contact with his uncle Harry, who is estranged from George's father Prince William, the news of the football team will be well-received. It is also likely that William, who attended Eton himself, would have already informed his son about the school's football programme.
