Nicole Kidman has opened up about her marriages to Tom Cruise and Keith Urban, revealing how they differed and impacted her life.
Early Marriage to Tom Cruise
Speaking to British Vogue, the 59-year-old actress recalled her marriage to Cruise, which began when she was 22. She said she was 'thrust into it' because of who she married at such a young age.
'Suddenly I was 22, 23 years old and I had this huge movie star husband. But it just seemed completely natural. We just fell madly in love and it was that simple,' she explained.
Despite warnings that the marriage could harm her career, Kidman said she didn't care. 'I'm like, "I don't care. I'm in love. I want to be married." And then I was his wife and they were like, "See, we told you." I'm like, "So what? I wasn't meant to marry the man I love? Of course I'll throw my career away. I don't care."'
Later Relationship with Keith Urban
Kidman married Keith Urban in 2006 after meeting him in 2005. The couple had two daughters together before announcing their separation in September 2025. Kidman filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences.
Reflecting on the end of her nearly 20-year marriage, Kidman told British Vogue she was 'very fearful and deeply vulnerable.' She attributed this to her 'feelings first' approach.
'I've approached my whole life like that,' she said. 'I don't overthink things and I'm probably not that analytical. I'm far more feeling-centred and I lead with my heart.'
Moving Forward with Hope
Kidman acknowledged that the past year has been difficult but said she has learned to adapt. 'I had a different view of what my life was going to be, but this is what it is now,' she stated.
She described the future as 'completely unknown' and 'strange,' but concluded: 'I can either really not confront it and just curl up, or I can just go forward with an enormous amount of hope.'
