Radio presenter Missy Dee has sadly died a year after receiving a double lung transplant. Best known for her broadcasting work in Birmingham and Leicester, she was a popular voice on Buzz Asia and helmed the Breakfast and Drivetime shows at Sabras Radio throughout her career. Missy spent years battling a chronic rare lung disease, which led to her having a double transplant last year.
In a heartbreaking statement, her family confirmed: “It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share the devastating news that our beautiful Missy Dee has passed away. To us, she was a beloved daughter, sister, cousin, massi and friend. To so many of you, she was ‘Missy Dee’ – the woman whose infectious laugh, crazy humour, authenticity, honesty and warmth brightened your day, whether you knew her personally or simply followed her journey online.”
Missy battled her lung condition for more than a decade, with her family admitting she dreamed “for so long” of being able to breathe without the use of supplemental oxygen, to “laugh without gasping for breath”, and to walk and live life. She nicknamed her new lungs her Amaanat – her “greatest gift”.
The statement added: “Tragically, after contracting a sudden and aggressive infection, Missy’s fight came to an end. Although her time with her Amaanat was heartbreakingly short, it gave her the greatest gift of all – the chance to truly live and breathe again.”
Missy’s family asked for privacy as they “navigate this unimaginable loss”, writing: “Rest peacefully, our beautiful hot sweet sticky jalebi. You fought harder than anyone we have ever known. Your smile, your laughter and your light will live on in all of us forever.”
