Martha Stewart has exposed Meghan Markle better than anyone in the Royal Family ever could – simply because of who she is. Widely considered the original lifestyle guru, Hollywood legend Martha knows what she’s talking about when it comes to cooking shows.
The author of multiple bestselling books and two long-running TV shows, Martha might have been embroiled in controversy during her career, but one thing is for sure – she knows how to build a brand. The name Martha Stewart is ubiquitous in kitchens across America.
Meghan's Inspiration
That means Meghan would likely have grown up with her buzzing in the background. It makes it even likelier that Meghan took inspiration, at least, from Martha’s telly shows.
And now Martha is seemingly speaking out against the Duchess of Sussex, or at least dropping some likely unwelcome gossip. In a new interview with People Magazine this week, she said of Meghan: “If you’re an actress, it’s hard to then transition to a princess and then from a princess into a homemaking guru on a television show. It doesn’t sort of follow.”
Frosty Encounter
And when the pair attended a dinner party together recently, Martha “didn’t talk to her more than to say a couple words” – showing exactly what she thinks of her would-be successor. Martha did admit, however, that she “knew” Meghan was talking about her recent reunion with the Royal Family after “just getting back from the palace”.
Last year, Martha admitted she hadn’t watched an episode of With Love, Meghan when it dropped on Netflix, despite the obvious homages it paid to her own career. Those are brutal snubs if I’ve ever seen one, and it has to grate on Meghan to be rejected by such a huge figure in the sphere she’s trying to take over.
Copycat Failure
Martha has built her career on crafting recipes, sharing lifestyle hacks and being, well, entertaining. All three of those things are what Meghan, on the other hand, has struggled to achieve. If I were Meghan I’d be begging Martha for tips on how to build my As Ever brand into something sustainable, not leaving a dinner party having exchanged “a few words” with her.
Obviously I don’t know who refused to speak to who, but what reason, really, would Martha have to ignore a duchess? To me it screams jealousy on Meghan’s part. Martha has managed to expose Meghan better than the royals, who are forced to abide by a degree of professionalism come what may, would ever be allowed to.
To go full copycat and then ignore the star who handed down her ideas in the first place is petty. And it shows Meghan’s true colours are on full display.
