Vicky McClure has confirmed that filming for the highly anticipated seventh season of BBC's Line of Duty has officially wrapped. The actress, who plays Kate Fleming, declared the cast is finally “off duty” after four months of production in Belfast.
Production Wrap Announced on Instagram
On July 11, 2026, McClure shared two photos on Instagram alongside co-stars Martin Compston and Adrian Dunbar. In the caption, she wrote: “And we’re Off Duty!! The last 4 months spent with two of my best mates. The brilliant cast & crew pulled out all the stops to bring @jed_mercurio script to life…thank you. Home time now, so can’t wait, missed my lot every single day.”
The post quickly garnered excitement from fans. One commented: “Mother of god - I can’t wait to watch this! All of us across Britain will be putting our feet up with a cup of tea, and a pack of biscuits - letsss goooo!” Another wrote: “Can’t wait, been rewatching from the beginning of season six again.” A third remarked: “Really can't wait for the best programme on television.”
Creator Jed Mercurio Reacts
Series creator Jed Mercurio responded to McClure’s post, saying: “A well-earned rest for the Tremendous Trio after a monumental shoot.” Compston also shared his own announcement on Instagram, posting a picture of himself and McClure in police uniform with the caption: “Season 7 done and dusted!”
Season 6 ended with the revelation that the elusive criminal “H” was Detective Superintendent Ian Buckells, portrayed by Nigel Boyle. However, speculation persists that this may have been a misdirection. The synopsis for season 7 reveals that AC-12 has been disbanded and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards. The team—Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings—are assigned their most sensitive case yet in this challenging new climate.
New Cast Member Robert Carlyle
Scottish actor Robert Carlyle joins the cast as a guest lead, playing Detective Constable Shaun Massie. Described as a “gruff loner” and a Specialist Rifle Officer (SRO) with the Tactical Operations Unit 7 (TO-7), his character is a veteran marksman. His demeanor changes when his commanding officer, Detective Inspector Dominic Gough, is accused of abusing his position as a sexual predator.
Carlyle expressed his excitement: “Having been a huge admirer of Jed Mercurio’s work for many years, I’m delighted to be given the opportunity to join such an exceptional cast for series 7 of Line of Duty. The scripts for the series are excellent and will absolutely maintain the quality that the audience have come to expect from this fantastic show. DC Massie is an extraordinary character and I look forward to bringing him to life.”
Filming began in spring 2026, five years after the final episodes of season six aired in 2021. The revival has been eagerly awaited by fans, who are now speculating about a release date. As one fan asked: “Okay so drop the release date????”
