Fans have left floral tributes, flags, and bottles of Newcastle Brown Ale on the stairs of St James' Park following the death of club legend Kevin Keegan on Monday. Keegan, who played for Newcastle United and managed the club twice, died after battling cancer, with his wife and daughters by his side.

One poignant message among the tributes read: 'You gave us back our Pride as Geordies. Most of all you made us smile. Thanks King Kev.' Another tribute stated: 'A true legend of a gentleman, footballer and manager. We thank you for everything you did and send our love and prayers to all of his family. Rest in eternal peace.' Thousands of tributes have been paid to Keegan, affectionately known as King Kev, including from former players Alan Shearer, who signed under him in a club record deal in 1996, and Tino Asprilla. This morning, the stairs around the statue of Sir Bobby Robson were covered in floral tributes, NUFC scarves, flags, and bottles of Newcastle Brown Ale. Both Shola Ameobi and MP Chi Onwurah were seen paying their respects, with Onwurah leaving flowers accompanied by a tribute saying: 'Always in our hearts.'
