Fans have rallied around Wales legend Neville Southall after the former Everton goalkeeper posted an update on his health on social media.
The 67-year-old, who also represented Bury and Torquay United over a career spanning three decades, made the statement on X on Sunday morning.
Taking to the social media platform, Southall posted: "Won’t be on here for a bit not well."
Outpouring of support
The post attracted plenty of support from the footballing family, who let the Welsh hero know many were thinking of him.
Wales fan group The Barry Horns posted: "We love you Nev."
Former Wales team-mate Iwan Roberts added: "Bless you Nev get better soon big man."
Journalist Daniel Storey wrote: "Keep well Nev, look after yourself x."
BBC colleague Marc Webber said: "Get well soon, fella."
The post attracted almost 1,000 comments in the space of just hours.
Career and recent health concerns
The 67-year-old won 92 caps for his country, and was at one stage considered the finest goalkeeper of his generation before retiring in 2002.
He also made well over 500 league appearances for Everton during his career, staying at Goodison Park from 1981 to 1998.
The Llandudno native had previously spent time at Bury, and would later enjoy spells at Stoke City and Bradford City before a string of others, ending his career at Dagenham and Redbridge.
Since retirement, he has been an outspoken advocate of mental health and LGBT rights, but his health has been a concern in more recent times.
Southall was hospitalised last summer following an infection, which left him on an intravenous drip.
"Not talking a break from here in hospital with a couple of drips due to bad infection sorry any I was supposed to meet and work for this weekend," he posted at the time.
The nature of this latest health issue isn't yet known, but it's clear he will likely receive plenty of support from across the football family.
