King Charles reportedly wants his sons Prince Harry and Prince William to reunite following Harry's arrival in the UK, after previously warning them not to make his final years a misery. The King is said to be hopeful that his youngest son's return to the UK could bring an end to the feud between the brothers.
Harry and Meghan's extended stay in the UK
Harry, 41, and Meghan Markle, 45, arrived in Birmingham on Wednesday for an extended stay in the UK, six years after they stepped down as working royals and relocated to the US in a move dubbed 'Megxit'. The family are set to live in a private non-royal home and will not have their status as royals changed.
King Charles, who continues to undergo cancer treatment, is said to be pleased that Harry has returned to the UK and looks forward to spending more time with him and his family. The Express understands that the relocation represents the initial stage toward reconciliation with the Royal Family following the severe fallout since the Sussexes' withdrawal from their royal responsibilities in 2020.
Source highlights best opportunity in years
Addressing the King's views on this rapprochement, a source close to the royal household told People: “He will want to see his sons together over time. This is the best opportunity we have seen in recent years.”
Harry, and his children Archie, 7, and Lilibet, 5, visited the King in July at Highgrove, highlighting the quiet improvements in their relationship. The source added: “That was a real positive,” hence the King wishes the same reunion for his sons.
Years of estrangement and a plea for peace
Harry and his older brother William, 44, have been estranged for years amid 'reveal all' television interviews and the release of Harry's 2023 memoir Spare. In the book, Harry recalled a moment after Prince Philip's funeral in 2021 when Charles pleaded with his sons: “Please, boys, don’t make my final years a misery.”
Five years on, it seems as if Charles' desire for his sons to make amends remains, and now there is much more likelihood of such happening as Harry will be living on home soil. Reconciliation will not be straightforward, as it is believed the brothers still do not speak. Harry's relationship with his father also stays somewhat complicated, with Charles only learning of his plans to move a few days prior to the news becoming public.
