King Charles is reportedly hopeful that Prince Harry's return to the UK could bring an end to the long-running feud between Prince Harry and Prince William. The monarch is said to be optimistic that his youngest son's move back to British soil could herald the conclusion of the bitter rift between the siblings.
Harry and Meghan's return to the UK
Harry, 41, and Meghan Markle, 45, landed in Birmingham on Wednesday for their 'prolonged' visit to the UK, six years after they stepped back from their roles as working royals and relocated to America in what was dubbed 'Megxit'. The family are expected to stay in a private non-royal residence and will retain their current royal status unchanged.
King Charles, who continues to undergo cancer treatment, is understood to be delighted that Harry has come back to the UK and anticipates spending more time with him and his loved ones.
A step towards healing relations
It is reported that the move marks the first step towards healing relations with the Royal Family after the breakdown that followed the Sussexes' departure from royal duties in 2020. Speaking about the King's perspective on a potential reconciliation, a source close to the royal household told People: "He will want to see his sons together over time. This is the best opportunity we have seen in recent years."
Harry, alongside his children Archie, 7, and Lilibet, 5, visited the King in July at Highgrove, showing gradual progress in their bond. The source added: "That was a real positive," explaining why the King desires the same reunion for his sons.
Brothers remain distant
Harry and his elder brother William, 44, have remained distant for years following 'tell-all' television interviews and the publication of Harry's 2023 memoir Spare. In the book, Harry recounted a moment following Prince Philip's funeral in 2021 when Charles implored his sons: "Please, boys, don't make my final years a misery."
Five years later, it appears Charles' wish for his sons to reconcile persists, and now there is considerably greater potential for this to occur as Harry will be residing on British soil. Reconciliation will not be simple, as it is understood the brothers still 'do not speak'. Harry's relationship with his father also remains complex, with Charles only learning of his intentions to relocate just days before the news became public.
