Netflix's horror series Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire has been hailed by fans as the "best show of 2026" and is being recommended as a perfect late-night binge for the bank holiday weekend.
The show, which first aired in 2022, released a new season this year, prompting television fans online to rank it among their top series of 2026. With rain falling across many parts of the country, viewers whose bank holiday plans have been disrupted are being urged to curl up in front of the TV instead.
Fans name it top series of 2026
The recommendation came after a Reddit user asked for people's "top five series" of the year so far, including continuations of older shows. They wrote: "Hey, everyone, the weekend is here, and I need some new series suggestions. Suggest to me your top five series of 2026 so far, including continuation of old series. I really need a good new series to binge-watch and forget about the outside world for this weekend."
One of the top suggestions was The Vampire Lestat, the name for the third season of Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire. After one person suggested the show, another replied: "Came here to say this! My favourite of this year!"
What is the show about?
The series is based on Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles book series and is separate from the iconic 1994 film, despite sharing the same source material. It stars Jacob Anderson as Louis de Pointe du Lac and Sam Reid as Lestat de Lioncourt.
The first two seasons follow the events of Anne Rice's first novel, while the 2026 season, titled Anne Rice's The Vampire Lestat, is based on the second novel. The show has already been renewed for a fourth season, titled Anne Rice's Queen of the Damned, which will follow the events of the third novel.
The series mostly follows Louis, a 145-year-old vampire who summons Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian) to redo an unpublished interview from 49 years earlier. Daniel's 1973 interview ends with him being attacked, and he later publishes his second interview as the book from the show's title, without Louis' consent. Lestat, a French vampire who falls in love with Louis in New Orleans, turns Louis into a vampire and forms a rock band called The Vampire Lestat in response to the book's publication.

The show embraces the queer elements of Anne Rice's work more than the 1994 film, and deals with themes such as race and abuse. It has been praised for its writing, costumes, soundtrack, and lead performances.
All three seasons are currently available on Netflix. In the UK, all three seasons can also be watched for free and without adverts on BBC iPlayer, provided viewers have a TV licence. The fourth season has been confirmed but not yet released; with two-year gaps between each of the first three seasons, season four could arrive in 2028.
