Emmerdale fans face an emotional double blow this week as the Dingle family deals with two major decisions. Noah Dingle announces his exit after landing a new job in Germany, while the family comes to terms with beloved dog Monty's final days.
Noah's big move abroad
During Tuesday's visit to the village (August 4), Noah (Jack Downham) revealed he had been successful in his application for an "amazing" new job opportunity in Düsseldorf. Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) and her husband Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) were left stunned as he dropped the bombshell that he would be moving country.
"They want me to fly out tomorrow," Noah confirmed. The electrician's move abroad comes as Charity battles with a sexual assault and blackmail at the hands of Dr. Todd (Caroline Harker).
"This will always be home," Noah reassured Charity as he held back tears. He added, "I'm sorry, I should have told you sooner, when I applied, but it is an amazing opportunity."
"I just think it's all happening a little bit fast, too fast even," Charity replied, as Noah offered to remain by his mother's side. Reports suggest Jack Downham is departing the soap after joining as Noah at just six years of age; his exit date is yet to be confirmed.
Monty's final days
Elsewhere in the village, at Wishing Well Cottage, the Dingles have been dealt further heartbreak as much-loved dog Monty faced his final days. Last month, the family discovered Monty's terminal cancer diagnosis, leaving Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) determined to prolong the dog's life.
On Tuesday, an optimistic Cain observed that Monty is "looking better", following another concerning episode. With Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) visiting Nana Barton's, Belle (Eden-Taylor Draper) assumed the role of pragmatist, stating she won't simply tell him what he wishes to hear.
"All I'm saying is, he's looking more like himself; moving about, going to his bowl," Cain explained. "You know what Rhona said, though. There's a tumour, it's spreading. There's nothing we can do to stop it," said Belle, with Cain maintaining, "they don't always get it right."
Subsequently, Cain discovered Monty resting on his original owner, Zak Dingle's, grave and concluded it was time to let him go, but would grant him one final night at home before his passing. "You have got to be kind to him, and let him go," Cain told his sons, who were devastated by the news. It seems that Wednesday will mark Monty's last day alive.
