Oven-Baked Sausages: Butcher’s Method for Golden-Brown, Juicy Results
Butcher's Oven Method for Golden-Brown, Juicy Sausages

Cooking sausages in the oven at 200°C (180°C fan) for 25 to 30 minutes, turning halfway, produces golden-brown, juicy sausages without the need for a frying pan, according to True Bites Family Butchers.

The butchers shared this method on their website, highlighting that oven cooking allows for even browning without standing over a hot pan. It is especially useful when cooking multiple sausages at once, for a cooked breakfast, family meals, or preparing sausages for sandwiches, mash, casseroles, or tray bakes.

Oven Cooking Guidelines

Most sausages take around 25 to 30 minutes in the oven. Thinner sausages may cook quicker, while thicker butcher's sausages may need 30 to 35 minutes. For very thick sausages, lowering the temperature slightly and extending cooking time is recommended.

Once the oven is preheated, place the sausages on a baking tray, optionally lined with foil or baking paper for easier cleanup. If the sausages are very lean, a small drizzle of oil can be added, though most sausages contain enough fat.

Turning and Finishing

Turn the sausages halfway through cooking to ensure even browning on both sides. The result is a delicious golden-brown exterior and piping hot interior.

These sausages pair well with mash, chips, eggs, beans, gravy, onion, or bread rolls for breakfast. For frozen sausages, the butchers recommend defrosting them fully in the fridge before cooking, as cooking from frozen can make even cooking harder, especially for thick sausages. If packaging states they can be cooked from frozen, follow the instructions and allow extra time.
