Denise Welch said she and her family had a "magical" weekend as son Matty Healy married Gabbriette Bechtel in Los Angeles.
It was a star-studded occasion for The 1975's frontman Matty Healy as he tied the knot with newlywed wife, Gabbriette in Los Angeles over the weekend.
At the weekend a statement from the couple's representatives said: "Matty Healy and Gabbriette Bechtel were married yesterday at a private ceremony in Los Angeles, attended by their family and close friends."
Engagement and Confirmation
Gabbriette sparked rumours of their engagement after posting a photo of her wearing a large black ring on her ring finger on Instagram in June 2024. She wrote: "Marrying The 1975 is very brat." Healy, who was tagged in the post, also re-posted the photo on his own story.
The next day Matty's mum, Denise Welch, confirmed the news on Loose Women and said: "I obviously have known for a few weeks that Matty got engaged. They went over to see their friends Charli (XCX) and George (Daniel) in New York…and I woke up this morning to the fact they've put it on Instagram."
She added: "I couldn't be more thrilled. We couldn't be happier – she is everything I would want in a daughter-in-law. I'm thrilled."
Denise's Instagram Message
Taking to her Instagram, Denise shared her first message from her trip to LA where she was joined by close family friends including Sally Dynevor and Angela Lonsdale.
She gushed: "This weekend was the most magical 3 days of my life!!! I can't wait to share it with you! All the aunties together in LA", posting a picture of them all in the LA sunshine.
Sally and Angela posted their own snapshots of their time in LA, with Angela who penned: "Memories made on the last night in LA with my sister from another mister @sallydynevor and the perfect end to what can only be described as one of the best weeks of our lives with the people we love. LA you have been everything and more and thank you so much @trumanblack @gabbriette @denise_welch @lincolntownley #timhealy @healytymd and all our gang for memories we will treasure forever and a day ! Until the next time LA La land #itsbeenemotional."
It comes just days after Matty Healy's ex Taylor Swift married husband Travis Kelce at Madison Square Gardens in New York. A billboard outside the venue read "JUST&T MARRIED" after the ceremony took place. The couple were reported to have invited around 1,000 guests, with celebrities including Gigi Hadid and Bradley Cooper, Graham Norton, Ed Sheeran, Hugh Grant and Ethan Hawke all in attendance.
