Charity Hero's World Cup Dream Realized
Jordan Adams, a 31-year-old charity fundraiser who has been told he will develop the fatal dementia that killed 12 members of his family, has been gifted tickets to the England vs. Argentina World Cup semi-final in Atlanta. The opportunity came after a social media plea caught the attention of England midfielder Kobbie Mainoo.
Adams, who flew from Heathrow to Atlanta, issued a desperate video appeal via his Instagram account @theftdbrothers, saying: "I have 32 hours to fulfil a lifelong dream. Eight years ago, I was given a terminal prognosis. That means I'm going to get the same frontotemporal dementia that took my mum and 12 relatives." He added: "It would be a real bucket list moment to go to England vs Argentina in Atlanta."
Kobbie Mainoo and FIFA Step In
Mainoo responded to the plea, offering Adams tickets to the match. Adams expressed his gratitude on social media: "Massive thank you to Kobbie for showing what a humble and generous human being he is; it’s made me love this team even more. I’ll forever be grateful for this opportunity." Additionally, FIFA has partnered with Adams' campaigning organization, making him a "special guest" at the match and collaborating with the FTD Brothers to spread dementia awareness worldwide.
Adams said: "This is a special experience with FIFA and the chance to spread dementia awareness around the world. I am on a mission before I die to make a difference and live life to the max as much as possible, and this is a bucket list moment."
FTD Brothers' Fundraising Legacy
Jordan and his brother Cian founded the FTD Brothers after their mother, Geraldine, died from frontotemporal dementia in 2016 at age 52. The brothers, from Redditch, Worcestershire, have raised nearly £2 million for dementia research. Both carry the gene that puts them at high risk of developing the disease in their 40s, which could be fatal within a decade.
Adams' journey highlights the power of social media and the generosity of athletes, turning a terminal prognosis into a moment of hope and advocacy on a global stage.
