Claire Sweeney has confirmed her departure from Coronation Street, with her final scenes airing on Monday (August 3). The actress, who played Cassie Plummer, shared a heartfelt Instagram post after her character left Weatherfield.
Cassie's exit storyline
Cassie was introduced in 2023 as the troubled daughter of Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) and mother to Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall). Recent drama saw the arrival of Tyrone's father, Ross Wilkes (Ian Burfield), and it emerged that Ross had paid Cassie for sex when she was just 15, leading to her pregnancy with Tyrone.
Last week, Cassie revealed the truth about Ross to her family, who had been building a relationship with him. Ross then threatened to hurt Cassie if she interfered in his life again. In Monday's episode, Tyrone told his mother to leave Weatherfield after Ross successfully drove a wedge between them.
Claire's tribute
Posting a video montage of her time on the cobbles, Claire wrote: "Three years. What an incredible journey. From my very first scene with Dame Maureen Lipman, to moving into the Dobbs' house with my gorgeous Tyrone @alanhalsall love you son."
She thanked co-stars including Jennie McAlpine, Bella Flanagan, and Simon Gregson, as well as the writers and crew. She added: "Being part of Coronation Street, such an iconic piece of British television, has been a genuine honour and a privilege. I'll treasure these three years forever. The tears you see from me in tonight's episode were very real."
Fans and colleagues flooded her with supportive messages, with Alan Halsall commenting "Love ya mum" and others expressing how much they would miss her character.
