Corrie fans 'work out' Lucy twist and Sally needs to watch out

Coronation Street viewers are convinced they've worked out a major Lucy Parkinson plot twist, with many suspecting she is the real killer behind her mother's murder.

Recently, Tim Metcalfe was stunned to discover his long-lost cousin Richie as a passenger in his cab around the precinct. With his wife Sally Metcalfe away at the time, Tim invited Richie back for a few drinks with the lads. During the evening, Richie opened up to Tim about his troubled marriage, prompting Tim to offer him a bed for the night. However, when Sally returned home, she was far from pleased to find Richie there, and Tim persuaded him to head back to his wife.

Yet after spotting Richie's wallet at home, Tim drove over to his house, where he discovered a dazed and bloodied Richie. Horrified by what he encountered inside, Tim immediately called the police. In Tuesday's episode, DS Lisa Swain paid a visit and confirmed that Richie had been charged with the murder of his wife. Lisa went on to tell Tim and Sally that Richie's daughter Lucy had been placed into care, with Richie maintaining he acted in self-defence, reports the Daily Star.

Lucy moves in with Tim and Sally

In more recent scenes, Lucy has moved in with Tim and Sally, bringing yet further turmoil for the household. In Friday's episode, which is now available to stream on ITVX, Lucy woke the house in the early hours, screaming and sleepwalking following a distressing nightmare. Upon overhearing Brody Michaelis gossiping about her family and discussing her mother's murder, Lucy immediately sprang to her father's defence, insisting that her mother had struck first and that he had acted in self-defence following years of abuse.

Later in the episode, Lucy found herself embroiled in yet another confrontation on the cobbles when Lily Platt attempted to befriend her. After Lucy blanked her, Lily called her a freak and went to walk away, but Lucy seized Lily's arm, forcing Jodie Ramsey to step in. This led to Lucy lashing out and leaving Jodie injured. Jodie wasted no time in informing Sally and Tim about Lucy's outburst, but the new foster parents stood by the newcomer, insisting she was the one being victimised.

Fans share their theories

Taking to Twitter, now X, Coronation Street fans are convinced that Lucy was actually responsible for her mother's death and that her father is shouldering the blame on her behalf. One viewer said: "Was obvious that Lucy would be the one who did it. Not her dad #Corrie that's my theory anyways" to which another wrote: "Wondering if they'll go down that obvious route with it being Lucy that killed her mum and her dad is covering for her #Corrie."

Elsewhere, another user posted: "Lucy definitely did it #corrie" to which a fellow viewer responded: "Anyone else already thinking Lucy did it and Richie is just covering for her? That's quite a temper she has there...#corrie.'" Elsewhere, another soap enthusiast remarked: "Do you think Lucy killed her mum in a twist #Corrie", while a separate viewer suggested: "My guess is Lucy killed her mum and her Dad is taking the blame.... #Corrie" with yet another fan of the show adding: "#corrie Did Lucy kill her mum and the dad is covering by taking the blame."

Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV and ITVX.
