Conan O'Brien to Return as Oscars Host for 2027 Ceremony

Conan O'Brien is set to return as host of the Academy Awards for a third time, with the film academy confirming on Tuesday that he will front the 99th Oscars in 2027. The comedian and Emmy winner has hosted the last two ceremonies to positive reviews.

In his opening monologue earlier this year, O'Brien joked that he was 'honored to be the last human host of the Academy Awards … Next year it’s going to be a Waymo in a tux.' He will be joined by returning executive producers Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan.

Academy leaders Bill Kramer and Lynette Howell Taylor praised the team in a joint statement, saying they 'have produced such captivating, entertaining and heartfelt shows over the last two years' and are looking forward to 'Conan superbly leading the celebration with his brilliance and humor.'

After a post-pandemic high of 19.7 million viewers for O'Brien's first hosting stint in 2024, when 'Anora' swept the awards, viewership dipped this year when 'One Battle After Another' won best picture. However, social media engagement rose by over 42% during the broadcast.

Craig Erwich, president of Disney's Television Group, said O'Brien 'has created remarkable energy around “The Oscars”' and that 'his singular comedic voice makes Hollywood’s biggest night one of the most entertaining celebrations of the year.'

The 99th Oscars will air live on ABC from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, March 14, 2027. It will be the penultimate ceremony at that venue and on broadcast television, as the show moves to YouTube and downtown Los Angeles for the 101st awards in 2029.
