FIFA backs Infantino after backlash
Infantino, 56, faced criticism after a controversial World Cup in North America and proposed selling World Cup stakes to private investors under the FIFA Forward Enterprise. The plan was dropped after fan backlash and a UEFA boycott threat.
In a statement, Infantino said the project would not proceed, citing divisions it created. An emergency meeting in Rabat on Wednesday reaffirmed the management board's full support for Infantino, the only official elected by the 211 FIFA Member Associations.
Carragher's history of criticism
Carragher has previously spoken about being pressured to support a biennial World Cup initiative. On the Football Ramble podcast, he described a Zoom call with ex-players organized by Arsene Wenger, after which he was asked to publicly endorse the idea. He refused, calling it "rubbish."
