Cardiff Rugby Players Remove Bathtub from Pen y Fan

Cardiff Rugby Academy players, while assisting National Trust workers with maintenance at Pen y Fan, discovered an abandoned bathtub at the summit and carried it back down the 2,900ft mountain. The tub had been left there by social media influencer Tom Christopher, who had attempted to break the world record for the highest bath.

Pre-season Work Turns into Rescue Mission

The academy team was spending the day helping with important upkeep at the famous tourist attraction as part of their pre-season preparations. Upon reaching the top, they were stunned to find the heavy tub seemingly dumped without explanation. Half a dozen or more players volunteered to transport it down, with the club sharing photos on social media.

Cardiff Rugby Academy's social media post read: "Fantastic day for senior academy supporting the national trust at Pen y Fan with some invaluable work experience and teamwork essential. Also the group had the pleasure of carrying a bath from the top down. Who would leave a bath up there?! #mindless."

Influencer's World Record Attempt

Tom Christopher had carried the bathtub up the mountain and posted a video of himself taking a celebratory plunge. He claimed to have consulted Guinness World Records officials to verify his attempt, though many questioned the validity given that higher-altitude countries exist. Other walkers helped him source and carry water to fill the bath.

Confusion and Planned Return

When Christopher returned to Pen y Fan later on Friday, he expressed confusion at the bath's disappearance in a new video. He insisted he intended to return on Sunday to wheel it down, noting that people had asked him to leave it for a couple of days. "I left my bath right here, and it's gone," he said.

During the challenge, he remarked: "Whoever thought this was a good idea is an absolute idiot…we did it! I genuinely think I'm going to pass out, (getting) the water is harder than the bath."
