Javier Rosado Martinez, 58, has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder and attempted sexual assault of his then-girlfriend's mother, Dolores Padilla Marrero, at an assisted living facility in Orlando, Florida. The incident occurred on March 13, 2022, just hours after Marrero celebrated her 93rd birthday, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.
Details of the Crime
Martinez, who was dating one of Marrero's daughters, did not attend the birthday celebration held at a different location. He later visited the facility that night, gaining entry through another resident. Days later, Marrero was discovered dead and unclothed on her bed with a blanket over her, as authorities stated at the time. Prosecutors revealed that Martinez had a "continual fixation" on elderly women, as reported by WESH ahead of his trial in May.
Internet History Reveals Disturbing Patterns
Prosecutors disclosed that Martinez's internet history showed he had searched for pornography involving older women with young men just two days prior to the brutal murder. The internet searches continued while Martinez was at Marrero's residence, prosecutors said, according to WESH. He also viewed those pornographic videos on his journey home following the homicide.
Sentence and Impact
State Attorney Monique H. Worrell's office announced the sentence on Tuesday, July 14. Martinez received a life sentence without parole for the murder and an additional five years for the attempted sexual battery, to be served consecutively. "Ms. Padilla-Marrero was a woman who opened her home to someone she trusted - and he repaid that trust with unspeakable violence," said State Attorney Worrell in her statement this week.
Marrero was a grandmother to 11 and great-grandmother to 21. If you or somebody you know has been affected by this story, contact Victim Support for free, confidential advice on 08 08 16 89 111 or visit their website, http://www.victimsupport.org.uk.
