Andy Carroll has revealed in his new memoir, Owning It, that he once took a group of girls on a drunken tour of Liverpool's training ground after a Christmas night out, claiming he lived on the grounds. The 37-year-old striker detailed the chaotic escapade at Kirkby in his book, which offers fans a deeper look into his time in the Premier League.
First Christmas party with the Reds
Carroll explained that his first festive outing with Liverpool did not go as he had hoped. "When my first Christmas at Liverpool came around, I thought we'd go somewhere really classy for our party - maybe a weekend in Spain or Portugal - but they booked a club in Manchester instead," he wrote. "We still had a good night and when it was over, some random girls we'd met decided to get the bus home with us."
The night out ended at the training ground, and Carroll recalled his growing concern as the group travelled back. "Everyone was drunk and giddy and seeing the funny side, but the closer we got to Liverpool, the more I started thinking, What is actually going to happen here? When we get back, we'll all have our own car to take us home. What are the girls gonna do?"
Claiming the training ground as home
Carroll's solution was to invite the girls into the training ground and pretend it was his residence. "As it transpired, a few of us younger lads decided to style it out and invite the girls into the training ground; and as we were wandering around, one of the girls said, So, whose house is this?'" he wrote. "I thought she was joking at first, but I don't think she was, and I decided to play along. 'A few of us live here, I said. 'Do you like it? Here, I'll show you our football pitches."
He continued: "I also showed them our massive pool and gym, and when we reached the canteen, the girl said, Why do you have such a huge kitchen? We do like to entertain, I replied."
Awkward questions and a quick exit
The ruse hit a snag when the girls questioned the sleeping arrangements. Carroll added: "The players had their own bedrooms upstairs, which blew her mind. Why are they all so tiny? Why have you got a single bed and no window?"
He responded: "'I just like my bedrooms to be as small and dark as possible..?' We eventually started panicking, gave the girls money for a taxi back to Manchester, and got the hell out of Dodge."
