Alex Jones was visibly emotional as she shared a heartfelt message with fans during The One Show's 20th anniversary special. The Welsh presenter, who has fronted the popular BBC magazine show since 2010, was joined by former co-stars and current colleagues live on air during Friday's hour-long programme to mark the milestone.
Anniversary Celebrations
Alex hosted the programme alongside Roman Kemp, with the duo joined by the current team of presenters, including Angellica Bell, Clara Amfo, JB Gill and Vernon Kay. Former hosts Christine Lampard and Matt Baker also returned to the iconic green sofa to share their memories of working on the show. A special film from the show's original presenter Adrian Chiles, who hosted the very first episode in 2006, was also shown.
Alex's Emotional Message
Just before the credits rolled, Alex spoke directly to the camera and said: "I just want to say a huge thank you to the team and crew that work relentlessly hard in this programme to make it a brilliant show for all of you every day, thank you to all of the guests for entertaining us and being generous their time and thank you to all of my co-hosts over the years." She added: "I've been so lucky to sit next to all of them and lastly thank you to you at home, You're the most important in all of this, thank you for being with us every weekday, it's a real privilege for us all to be with you at seven every night."
Fan Reactions and Interruption
The emotional presenter then introduced musical guest Tom Grennan, who closed the special with a rendition of his hit single A Little Bit Of Love. Fans took to social media to share their thoughts, with one writing: "Really enjoyed #TheOneShow 20th anniversary." Another added: "Can you release this special one show on DVD please #TheOneShow." A third commented: "This 20 year celebration is a great hour of TV. Happy Birthday #TheOneShow." A fourth said: "Happy 20th anniversary @BBCTheOneShow - I love the warmth and inclusivity of the programme #theoneshow." A fifth added: "I love a good TV montage! 20 years of pure TV live entertainment!"
However, the live show was interrupted at the beginning by the government's emergency alert. A confused Alex told viewers: "You couldn't make that up could you. I think it's a fire alarm but we'll continue for you and I'm doing my best to keep a straight face." It was later revealed that millions of people across England and Wales received the alert from 7pm, warning against lighting anything that could spark a wildfire, including barbecues, campfires, and fireworks. The One Show airs weeknights on BBC One at 7pm.
