Entrepreneur and podcast host Gemma Atkinson has revealed the drama behind a recent look she wore to an event she was hosting, which also triggered frank criticism from a family member. The 42-year-old appeared on her Lost In Translation podcast, which she co-hosts with her fiancé Gorka Marquez, whom she met while the pair were doing Strictly in 2017.
Gemma, a presenter for Hits Radio, explained how busy her week had been after hosting two events, including one raising money for Usher Syndrome, a disease that can cause hearing and vision loss. To prepare for the event, she had to wear a special dress suggested by her stylist Ryan Kay, which Gorka complimented.
Gorka's Compliments and Fans' Praise
The former Strictly pro, 36, said he wanted listeners to "just appreciate how beautiful and hot you look in both days". His compliments were later echoed by Gemma's fans on Instagram after she posted photos of the dress, with followers labelling her appearance as "fantastic", "amazing", "stunning", and "beautiful".
While thanking her fiancé, who proposed on Valentine's Day in 2021, Gemma described the drama that unfolded when her stylist suggested she wear an outfit that was not meant to be worn with pants.
Wardrobe Malfunction Fears
Gemma, a former Emmerdale star, admitted she was initially surprised by what Ryan had picked out for her. She remembered: "I just went, 'What do you mean, 'Here's the dress', it's lace it's see-through'." He went, 'Honestly babes'. He said the flowers are just placed in the precise areas so everything's covered."
However, Gemma was not happy, adding: "And I went, 'Absolutely, go eff yourself. Absolutely not'. I was like these chebs have breastfed two kids, I was like, 'No. Regardless of where the flowers are placed, I have to wear underwear'."
Mia's Blunt Remark
Ryan agreed to add a bra and some pants to the dress, though Gemma desired to feel more at ease considering she would be on stage before hundreds of people. She then asked whether there was any possibility of being more concealed in the lace outfit, whereupon her stylist conceded he would pop to M&S, returning with a bodice and some pants for her to wear underneath.
Once she felt at ease, Gemma revealed the outfit to her seven-year-old daughter Mia, one of two children she shares with Gorka, alongside three-year-old Thiago, who made an abrupt remark. Gemma said: "For anyone brave enough to do it how it's supposed to look on the catwalk, bravo to you. I just wasn't brave enough."
"And I still showed Mia and she went, 'Mum I can see your knickers'...but Ryan said [Gorka] had messaged him saying it was your favourite look."
