42 Things Every Welsh Person Has Done at Least Once
42 Things Every Welsh Person Has Done at Least Once

From debating how to say Primark to getting sunburnt in winter, there are certain experiences that unite every Welsh person. Here are 42 things that every single Welsh person has done at least once.

Quirky Welsh Habits

Ending a conversation in a particular way and giving a fake name at Starbucks because it's just not worth the hassle are just the start. Many have also started to look for an old school friend on Facebook before giving up.

Putting an 's' on the end of Tesco and Asda for no reason anyone can explain is a common quirk. Debates over how to say Primark and Adidas are also familiar, as are arguments about the pronunciation of 'here', 'ear' and 'year'.

Common Welsh Experiences

Being asked if you know someone else from Wales, then realising 'Oh my God, yeah, they were in my school!' is a frequent occurrence. Finding out about a national emergency before English people, hearing someone moan about Welsh coming first on road signs, and being told 'You don't sound Welsh' are all part of the experience.

Being called a sheep shagger and replying with 'We shag 'em, you eat 'em' is another classic. Sticking a Welsh flag in the window of your hotel or student flat, going on holiday and checking the weather back home, and being asked to say certain Welsh phrases are all common.

School and Home Life

Doing Welsh homework that looks a certain way, having a battle on the phone, and never hearing anyone Welsh actually say 'Whose coat is that jacket?' are all relatable. Being asked why you don't support England in football and being late because of certain things are also on the list.

Taking a selfie at the top of Pen y Fan, then arranging with your mates to do Snowdon's next (but never actually doing it) is a familiar story. Voting for the Welsh one off the telly just cos they're Welsh, comparing the price of a drink in London to back home, and cheering when you got to the Welsh side of the Severn Bridge are all part of it.

Holidays and Traditions

Having a certain sticker in your car, going on a school trip to St Fagans, Llangrannog, Glan Llyn or Techniquest, and getting sunburnt in winter are all common. Describing yourself as 'Welsh, not English' on holiday and singing songs like Aderyn Melyn, Dau Gi Bach, Mi Welais Jac y Do or Gee Ceffyl Bach are also on the list.

Having an argument over how you pronounce 'tooth' and 'bath', looking for your name on a souvenir mug even though you know there's zero chance, and saying 'Just going down West Wales for a bit' when asked where you're going on holiday are all familiar. Coming back telling everyone 'You don't need to go abroad when you've got this!', getting drunk in a bus stop, rugby stand or rec, planning an all-dayer like it was your wedding day, and finishing it with chips, cheese and gravy round out the list.
