Yasser Mohammad Abu Hamed, a 21-year-old living in a tent in Gaza, has been offered a place to study computer science at the University of Leicester and has launched a fundraiser to cover the costs.
Abu Hamed, who described his life as "simple" before the war, said he lost his home, safety, and stability. He now lives in a tent with "no stable electricity or reliable internet".
Dream to study in the UK
Abu Hamed said studying at the University of Leicester is his dream, with the four-year computer science course representing "a chance to start again". He was accepted into several UK universities, but Leicester is the one that "means the most" to him.
He said: "Three years ago, my life was simple. I studied, planned my goals, and believed that hard work would shape my tomorrow. Then the war came, and everything changed."
Fundraiser launched
Abu Hamed needs around £20,000 to cover tuition and living expenses in the UK. His fundraiser has raised over £8,500 so far.
He said: "I'm not asking for luxury. I'm asking for a chance to study and build a future. War took my home, my belongings, and my sense of safety, but it did not take my education. And I refuse to let it take my future."
