Liverpool's Lipa Bar has issued a public apology after a recent quiz theme caused offence. The bar, based at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts on Mount Street, said its intention was "not to harm or offend anyone" and that future themes will be changed.
The quiz, held on October 20, was themed around Harry Potter. The topic can be contentious due to author J.K. Rowling's views regarding sex and gender cases.
Statement from Lipa Bar
In a statement, Lipa Bar said: "From the recent feedback we’ve received, LIPA Bar would like to apologise for our recent quiz theme and poster.
"Our intention was not to harm or offend anyone and we want to be inclusive of everyone. Our aim is to give a fun, interesting service with themes that the students will enjoy. We are deeply disheartened that we have offended anyone."
Weekly quiz nights continue
The quiz is held every Tuesday, with past themes including Disney, animated movies, geography and music. The bar is a social hub for students that provides weekly themed nights, including quizzes and gigs with The 2ube.
Liverpool city centre holds a range of pub quizzes throughout the week with great prizes to be won. Guests can pull up a seat with friends, enjoy a few social drinks, and even walk away with cash if their trivia knowledge is up to scratch.
The statement added: "On that note, the theme for this week's quiz will be changed and for future quiz themes, we will make sure we are readily informed before going ahead with them."
