Local police were immediately contacted and have launched an investigation into the death. The university declined to provide further details, citing respect for the individual and their family, and said it would wait for authorities to release more information.
It is not yet known whether the deceased was a student or staff member, nor has the cause or nature of death been disclosed. The university assured the campus community that it is safe and that counselling and support services are available.
The centennial celebrations, which were scheduled to include ceremonies, a reception, and a raffle, have been cancelled. It is unclear if they will be rescheduled.
