Prince George is set to attend Eton College this September, following in his father's footsteps at the prestigious £63,000-a-year boarding school. Kensington Palace confirmed the news on June 16, after the Prince and Princess of Wales considered Marlborough College but ultimately chose Eton.
Strict Rules and Punishments
Prince George must adhere to a strict set of rules at Eton, with breaches leading to "The Bill" – a detention system. Key rules include:
- Tardy Book: Late arrivals must sign a book at the School Office early in the morning.
- Colours Test: New students memorize the locations and official colours of all 25 boarding houses.
- Rip: Substandard homework receives a "rip," and multiple rips result in a "white ticket" progress report.
- B Block: Senior prefects (Collegers and Oppidans) notify students placed in The Bill.
Punishments
- Lines: Copying 100 hexameters of Latin poetry.
- Georgic: Copying 500 hexameters.
- Chores: Unpaid labour like weeding a housemaster's garden.
Privileges and Traditions
Despite strict rules, George can look forward to unique Eton traditions. He may become a Wet Bob (rower), Dry Bob (cricketer), or Slack Bob (neither). As he progresses, he gains privileges like visiting Rowland's Tap for food and drinks, and possibly being elected to Pop – a senior prefect group with distinctive waistcoats. If appointed House Captain, he can wear a stick-up collar; the highest student leadership role is Captain of the Oppidans.
