Kensington Palace has issued a statement confirming that Prince George will attend Eton College from this autumn, following in the footsteps of his father, the Prince of Wales. The 12-year-old prince, who appeared with his family at the Trooping the Colour ceremony over the weekend, will become a pupil at the prestigious Berkshire school, which also educated his uncle, the Duke of Sussex.
Official Confirmation from Kensington Palace
A Kensington Palace spokesperson said on Tuesday, June 17: “Kensington Palace can confirm that Prince George will attend Eton College from this September.” The announcement ends months of speculation about the young royal’s educational future.
Current Education at Lambrook School
Prince George is currently a student at Lambrook School, a private preparatory school in Berkshire, where he boards alongside his siblings, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, 8. Lambrook has been the educational home for the Wales children since the family moved to Windsor.
Following Family Tradition
Eton College, which charges £63,000 per year in fees, has a long history with the British royal family. Prince William attended the school from 1995 to 2000, and his brother Prince Harry also studied there. William’s first day at Eton was famously captured by the press, with his parents, Charles and Diana, and brother Harry accompanying him on September 6, 1995.
Years later, at age 18, William reflected on his time at Eton, saying: “I’ve really enjoyed being able to go about Eton as just another student.”
Potential Boarding Arrangements
It remains unclear whether Prince George will board at Eton or commute from the Wales family home. The college is located just a few miles from the Waleses’ Forest Lodge residence at Windsor, making daily travel feasible.
Previous Speculation and Tours
Parents William and Kate were reportedly seen touring Eton with their eldest son in 2023, fueling speculation that the school was a top choice. In recent days, reports suggested that an announcement about George’s education would be made by the prince and princess this month.
The decision to send Prince George to Eton continues a tradition of royal education at the institution, which has educated numerous members of the British aristocracy and global leaders.
