Kensington Palace has confirmed that Prince George will begin at Eton College this September. The Prince and Princess of Wales deliberated over which school to send their eldest son to for Year 7.
Although they considered options like Marlborough College, they ultimately decided Prince George would follow in his father's footsteps by joining Eton.
The Rigorous Admissions Process
Boarding school adviser Caven Wagstaff, CEO of CJE Educational Consultancy, outlined the years-long journey in a TikTok video.
Registration
Registration usually happens when boys are in Year 5, around age 9 or 10. Families often prepare years in advance. According to Eton's website, a boy can be registered up to the end of UK School Year 5. Applicants must upload a birth certificate and pay a non-refundable fee of £480.
ISEB Common Pre-Test
In the autumn term of Year 6, boys sit the ISEB Common Pre-Tests in October or November. The test includes English, Maths, verbal reasoning, and non-verbal reasoning. A score above 120 is needed to be considered.
Eton List Tests and Interview
Strong performers are invited for Eton List tests—a computerized adaptive assessment—followed by interviews. These occur in the Spring term based on the boy's birthday. Prince George, born in July, likely had his evaluation in late April or early May 2025. Eton assesses confidence, curiosity, communication, and school references.
Common Entrance Exam
Successful candidates receive a conditional place, confirmed by passing King's Scholarship, Common Entrance, or Eton Entrance exams at age 12/13 in Year 8. Parents pay an Acceptance Fee of £3,840 by the end of March in Year 7, with £500 refundable upon leaving. Termly fees are £21,099.60, totaling £63,298.80 annually.
