Art Student Stabbed To Death By Roommate At California University

A 22-year-old California State University, Long Beach student was stabbed to death by one of his roommates over the weekend, police have confirmed.

The incident occurred on Sunday October 5 on Temple Avenue. Officers responding to the scene found two men with stab wounds to their upper bodies. One victim was taken to hospital in a stable condition, while the other was pronounced dead at the scene.

The deceased has been identified as Spencer Timms, an industrial design student who had recently transferred from Saddleback College. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office listed the cause of death as multiple stab wounds to the chest.

Alejandro Iniestra, 34, of Long Beach, was arrested at the scene and has been charged with murder. He is being held on $2 million bail. Investigators believe Iniestra attacked both roommates, but a motive has not yet been disclosed.

The university expressed deep sadness over the loss, stating: 'We are deeply saddened by the loss of our student, Spencer Timms. We have been in touch with Spencer’s family and have been reaching out to and supporting his Beach classmates and faculty.'

The dean of the College of Arts, Royce W Smith, described Timms as an 'incredibly positive and impactful student, maintaining a 4.0 GPA during his time at CSULB and sharing a passion for design.' Police have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
