Nine primary school children were taken to hospital after eating seeds from trees on the grounds of their school in West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire. The Year 6 pupils from Jesse Gray Primary School were rushed to Queen's Medical Centre as a precaution.
The children were monitored for several hours before being discharged unharmed. Head teacher Chris Belton confirmed that all nine pupils are back in school today with no adverse reactions.
Belton said the trees have been cordoned off and will be removed. Teachers have warned pupils about the dangers of eating wild seeds and berries. The head teacher praised the swift actions of staff and the emergency services.
One parent, who was dropping off children at the school, said she was told the children had eaten berries and that staff had been very cautious. The incident has prompted a safety assembly reinforcing the message of safe play.
